Shipping Containers a Hot Ticket this Festival Season

Hundreds of shipping containers are set to steal the limelight at festivals and major events across the nation this summer as organisers jump on board the pop-up wave, transforming the units into everything from merchandise kiosks, ticket booths and refrigerators to restaurants, bars, shops, toilets blocks and sound walls.

Australia’s leading shipping container supplier, Royal Wolf, has hundreds of orders from a host of major events including Taste of Tasmania, Sunset Cinemas Canberra, Sydney Hills Outdoor Cinema, Opera on Sydney Harbour, Townville’s Culture Fest and Greek Fest, Brisbane’s Soundwave and Woodford Folk Fest.

Adelaide Fringe, a month long program of cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, music and visual art, has ordered 120 containers alone.

Royal Wolf’s Chief Operating Officer, Neil Littlewood, said there has been a huge increase in orders this year as event organisers let their imaginations run wild and create a host of new uses such as artist’s green rooms, public walkways, quiet spaces and obstacle courses.

Shipping containers are no longer limited to traditional storage but have become an essential part of the festival scene,” he said.

They are easily modified and transported to venues as a practical, secure and cost effective solution, and in the case of a tight footprint, can be stacked on top of each other.

The container has really come in to vogue across the events market, now they’re seen as economical, trendy and cool,” he said.
