How National Account Manager is supporting customer growth with Royal Wolf
There was no such thing as “I can’t” or “I don’t know how” in the Baxter family.
“The natural hunter in me comes from my old man,” says Alex Baxter, Royal Wolf’s new Sydney-based National Account Manager – Manufacturing, Industrial and Mining.
“Dad has a sales background, with a problem-solving mentality – so he knows how to figure something out to make it happen.”
Growing up, that approach and his father’s can-do attitude rubbed off on Baxter and it’s a quality he uses today – whether he’s hunting for new business or working on a container solution to meet a customer’s specific needs.
“I enjoy the challenge of finding companies that are at their peak, or the ones that are market leaders, and seeing how I can help them to continue to grow and expand with what I can offer them,” he says.
With a focus on the manufacturing, industrial, and mining sectors, a significant part of Baxter’s mandate at Royal Wolf is targeting new businesses and growing the company’s existing customer base.
“My goal is to understand what our customers need and what they’re looking for in the future. It’s about understanding their pain points, their growth, and how we can partner in supporting that.
“The key to making that happen is building relationships, gaining a deep understanding of what their business does, and giving them a full understanding of what Royal Wolf can do to enhance their operations.”
Baxter loves meetings where he talks to customers about how containers can solve a business challenge, and then he sees “the penny drop” when they realise containers are the answer.
“Those moments are why I do this job,” he smiles.
Forward-thinking, future-focused
Since joining Royal Wolf, Baxter has spent a significant amount of time with the company’s technical solution specialists in Brisbane to gain a full understanding of the capability of containers.
“What we can do with a steel box is quite something. It’s a very impressive piece of kit. So if I don’t know what the solution is, I go to the engineering division which are not only extremely intelligent but incredibly creative.
“Having creativity in the engineering area is a very exciting space and a huge benefit for our customers because they are developing solutions that no one has thought of before.
“It's exciting to be at a company with significant clout which means it can be open to looking and evolving to suit their customer's current needs and what they require in the future.”
Solar-powered Site Hub transforms remote mining camps
With his previous experience in the mining industry, Baxter knows the challenges of working in remote areas.
For example, mining camps are traditionally sprawling operations made up of many different buildings and facilities – from tents and portaloos, to diesel generators and other specialist equipment.
“Moving a camp, or a small exploration village, is a complex and costly task because everything needs to be packed up, loaded into a truck, and then transported to its new site.”
Baxter believes Royal Wolf’s Site Hub – a self-sufficient work site solution fully powered by solar energy – is a game changer given it can be operational within minutes of being lifted into location.
“It's a product that no one else has out in the market and every client I speak to can see a use for it.
“It's lifted off the back of the truck, make sure it's settled, turn it on, and it’s good to go without the need for external infrastructure or services. The ability to have an active site in the space of less than 15 minutes is remarkable and hugely cost-effective.
“While people know Royal Wolf best for hiring storage containers, it’s exciting delivering something new to the market that provides a tangible business advantage for our customers."
