Container for the Congo - Royal Wolf and Rotary Support Mothers in Africa

The ‘Container for the Congo’ project came to life following a meeting between Dr Luc Mulimbalimba Masururu, the youngest Member of Parliament in the DRC, and Rotary where he revealed that mothers and newborns were needlessly dying from inadequate care in his home nation.

Royal Wolf and Rotary - Containers for Congo

Rotary called on friends, relatives and business partners to gather everything from medical equipment and birthing kits, to clothing, beds and blankets, to be conveyed to a country where 95 per cent of the women go without a midwife or doctor to help with their birth. Lucy Hobgood-Brown, international service director for the Rotary Club of Hunters Hill, said the project would not have been possible without Royal Wolf who donated the container to safely transport the supplies.

“We weren’t short on passion, supplies, or volunteers, but in order to make a delivery of this size from Sydney to Kinshasa (DRC’s capital city), we needed a partner. Royal Wolf made this dream a reality,” she said. Royal Wolf’s Executive General Manager of Operations, Ben Buddo, said “the company is proud to be part of this incredible initiative to improve lives”. The container has made its way overland from Tanzania through Burundi to its destination in the DRC. To watch a short video on the container contents being loaded, please click here.
